    The Scottish Highlands

In the summer of 2012, my family drove up to Glencoe and were swept away by the grandeur and beauty of the Scottish Highlands. It was early March, but the snow-capped mountains were a sight to behold.

We started from the city of Glasgow and drove up the A82 through Loch Lomond. It is a very scenic route and there are plenty of spots to stop and take in the wonderful sights.

    The Bagpiper

We met an interesting character on the way. A bagpiper in full traditional Scottish gear playing a bagpipe in the pouring rain! You cannot get a more authentic Scottish welcome than this. The chap had a very nice trailer parked nearby and this is where he lived.

We stopped by a river to take a few photos and stumbled across a beautiful waterfall. What better scene for a long exposure shot?

  • Chords – Nee Maathram Mathi

    Chords – Nee Maathram Mathi

My mother tongue is Malayalam, and there are many superb Malayalam Christian devotional songs composed over the decades. This post is about one particular song that I learnt a long time ago. At our youth group in college, we used to sing this song in English, Malayalam, Hindi, Naga and even Swahili, reflecting the rich diversity of students we had in our church family there.

So here are the chords to the song, an English translation, and a Youtube link to the video of the song. Its an easy song, ideal for a beginner.

  • Find the chords played in a song automatically

Have you ever wanted to find out the chords played in a song, but couldn’t because it’s not a famous song or nobody has put them up on the internet or its in a different language? I have a decent sized mp3 collection and ever since I picked up the guitar, I have been hunting for chords for many of these songs. So I was surprised to find that there is a free open-source project titled CLAM that has developed a software called Chordata that can actually analyze an MP3 and tell you all the chords in the song. Moreover, it also displays the chords in time with the music so that you know where the chords change.

  • The Chosen

    The Chosen

Ever since I was sure about my salvation in our Lord Jesus and believed, He has been changing me… the worldly things are losing their sheen. Matters of the Kingdom of Heaven are becoming dearer to me. I have started thinking about what Jesus wants us, His representatives, to be to a fallen world. When I was lost, people who had given their lives to God seemed to be fools losing out on all the fun. For at that time I was not saved but was living in the flesh.
But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
    1 Corinthians 2:14 (NKJV)
When I was living in the flesh, it blinded me from the truth of Jesus Christ. I can imagine the anguish and the pain that my friends who were already in Christ felt when they could not get through to me. Their words seemed to fall on deaf ears. But now I know that their efforts were not in vain. Even though I actively resisted listening to their genuine interest to see me saved, each of those attempts were guided by God to bring me to Him.
For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. – 1 Corinthians 1:18 (NKJV)

This is what was happening in me too. Before I was saved I used to read the Bible occasionally, but I never had the interest nor the zeal which I now find in me. But God’s plan never fails and whatever I did to resist Him, He faithfully kept calling me to experience Him. And I am ever so thankful that He did not give up on me. I am indeed blessed that I have been called and chosen.

“For many are called, but few are chosen.” – Matthew 22:14 (NKJV)
This is my greatest joy that I have been chosen by God to be his child, to be his representative, to be His witness to the world. Sometimes when I am overwhelmed by the sheer enormity of this commission, I go back to Jesus, to the cross where he hung, and then I see that there is nowhere I would rather be, than in the centre of His will.
For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will— to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves.
    Ephesians 1:4-6 (NKJV)
In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, in order that we, who were the first to hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory. And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.
    Ephesians 1:11-14 (NKJV)
I didn’t choose Him, He chose me! This brings to mind how Jesus chose His twelve disciples. He chose them, they didn’t choose Him! We believers were chosen to be in Christ before creation! In what manner were we chosen to be His? In love, in accordance with His pleasure and His will; and not in accordance with our pleasure or our will.
Sometimes I wonder why people take so long to accept Christ into their lives. How could they not see the truth and believe. How could they not feel the grace? But then the scripture tells me that we are called to Him according to His will. The god of this age, the devil, has covered the eyes of the world so that they cant see God.
But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them. For we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your bondservants for Jesus’ sake. For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
    2 Corinthians 4:3-6 (NKJV)

Not all who hear the good news will turn their hearts to Jesus. Only the chosen will receive Jesus. But we know that this is in line with God’s will. Still when we feel that little nudge from the Holy Spirit, we should share our faith with the nonbeliever. Who are we to presume that someone is lost and wont be saved? Though you may not know it you may be the only Christian he knows! So we have to be ready and willing to be used for God’s purposes.

Why were we called to Him? To praise His glory, yes that God is glorified, not me, not you, but God. We are not worthy but He is. We should always remember that we were created to praise and glorify Him and Him alone. That’s the purpose of our existence. We glorify Him when we do what Jesus emphasized the most – Love. Love God with al our heart and soul and love all of God’s children. For when we have love in our hearts no evil can exist there.

Out of love comes the yearning to obey God’s will and do all that He commanded us to. His commands are no longer a burden to us, but something that we joyously and willingly want to do for our Lord. We need not worry about what we are to do. All we need is to ask Him and He will show us the way.

  • Hello!

    Hello!

Hey people! This is my first post…. so let me tell you more about myself… I am a 21 year old guy from Cochin, Kerala State, India. I just graduated as a mechanical engineer from TKM College of Engineering Kollam. That’s about my earthly business hehe.

    My college

I was saved when I was in the second year of engineering at Kollam. That was the most significant event in my college life and for that matter in my whole life. When I set foot in the college for the first time, well it didn’t really match my expectations and I wondered whether I made a mistake by choosing TKM. But the Lord had plans for me long before I could even realize that my life was changing. How many times had I asked God before I was saved, “why here God, why am I here”… and now I realize that I was right where God wanted me to be. I made the best of friends, I had the best of times, I enjoyed my new life in Jesus, I had experiences both good and painful that have prepared me to face the world after I left college. When I was in college I had my believers circle, my believer friends who were always with me, watching over me and gently helping me when I stumbled – my safety net, my comfort zone. That’s what I miss the most now… but then I realize what God is teaching me here… to be reliant only on Him, not to have any other priorities, other ‘gods’ that I built up.
Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him.
    Psalm 62:5 (NIV)
My friends who have joined their jobs in various parts of India also echo this thought. Or God is a jealous God and He wants top place in our hearts and our minds. Friends, family, worldly things, places – anything that we value more than our relationship with Him should give way to Him… our Lord knows what’s best for us and He loves us so much more than we can fathom. His will may seem painful and tiring but we should trust Him for this will save us from much heartache later on. We can’t see the future but our awesome God can and He doesn’t want us to hurt in the future. Because when we hurt, He hurts too… We have a God who knows our pain, who understands our pain and who weeps with us in our mourning. Look at the shortest verse in the New Testament found in John 11:35:
    Jesus wept.
Two words, but what meaning they hold! Our God wept, for us, out of compassion, and pain that he felt and shared with us. So why not trust the Lord when we encounter suffering as we follow His commands…for we know that God wants us the best that He has in store for us. Jesus never said following Him would be easy, instead He promised us suffering for our faith in Him. We do not belong to this world…hence we will never find solace here, we have to fix our gaze on the things above us, towards the Heavens. If we lose sight of our goal its easy to drift away from the narrow path and into the wide roads of destruction. How can we find joy in suffering… the answer lies in God. We look towards a future inheritance, not in this world but in heaven. That’s my hope, I look towards the day that I am with my Lord Jesus, walking right next to Him… and to be with Him evermore…
